Residents of Kimwarer, Elgeyo Marakwet County, have expressed their happiness after the Ministry of Mining announced plans to revive the Flourspar factory. They therefore asked the government to speed up the plan to compensate the owners of the farms.

Two hundred and fourteen mining licenses have been processed out of 1,206 licenses as the Ministry of Mining races to complete the verification process by April this year. Mining Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya says reforms being undertaken in the sector would among others help net 118 billion shillings in mineral investment.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development says it will reinforce on the spot assessment of mineral exploration and actual mining activities as it strives to shake off speculators who continue to hold licenses without business operations taking place.
